Captains Letter to Members

Hello Members of Cave Castle Golf Club,

I have thoroughly enjoyed being his Vice Captain. I am absolutely honoured and humbled to be the Captain of this fantastic club for the next 12 months.  Together with the 2026 Committee and Management we have some great events for members on and off the course. I must mention that I am fortunate to be Captain of the golf club at a very good time.   The owners have made recent investments, and with the hard working team of Greenkeepers led by Lee Hamilton, this is reflecting on providing the fabulous course we can play on.

For those of you who were unable to attend last week’s member’s AGM. The annual captain changeover occurred.  The picture shows Jonathan Burns (right) handing over the Captain’s reign to me on the left. (Just in case you don’t know who I am). I am delighted that Jonathan introduced me to a memorable year, and

The new bore hole is supplying mineralised water for the course. We now have 18 playable greens which are consistent all year and a splendid halfway house. We are lucky to have Steve Mackinder in the Pro Shop, Bar Manager Carly and new Chef in the kitchen Rich, this place is buzzing!  It’s really an incredible time to be playing golf at Cave Castle.

We have a hard working Committee who normally meet once a month to discuss matters regarding members and the golf club. The minutes of the Committee meetings are always published on the website the following month.

For your information we have approx. 350 members at Cave Castle. We have a growing number of Junior golfers which will stand us well for the future. The Ladies and Senior’s members’ sections are also thriving, and the management monitors these numbers and tee time availability.

I know your diaries get full very quickly so Captains Day will be held on June 20th with the evening at the Castle hotel. All other dates are in the 2026 website diary.

I am very happy to have by my side, Freer Boddy as Vice Captain.  I know we will have a memorable partnership in trying to improve this club following in the footsteps of all the past Captains.

I’m always happy to chat, shake hands, and hear your thoughts about the club; good, or otherwise. I’ll do my best to represent you and bring your ideas to the table.

My charity this year is Sight Support. Basically, it is a 160 year old charity that supports people in Hull and East Yorkshire. It supports people with various degrees of blindness due to health or impact reasons. These people are often anxious and scared of what the future may bring, and this local charity tries to help them adjust to live an active and happy life. Something that is quite close to my heart so please help support my chosen charity.

Once again thank you to Jonathan Burns, for a super 2025.  I am looking forward to playing golf with as many of you as possible next year. Happy golfing, 2026 its going to be a fantastic year!
